The Making of Together

Taste and smell can be extraordinarily evocative, bringing back memories of not just the meals we once enjoyed, but also of the people we shared that time with. Food memories are our most vivid, calling on each of the senses and able to summon deeper feelings. In each film, our characters are pulling into the past, triggered by the sound, smell, or taste. Designed to mimic how memories are recalled, each story is non-linear and incomplete - a tapestry of fragmented moments that come together, or a puzzle made more beautiful by the few pieces it’s missing.

Sneaky sandwiches

A much-loved Aunty’s terrible cooking and a deep sibling bond formed through a mischievous act - they would say they’re full, but then sneak down after dinner for sandwiches.

The invention of the cheeseburger

The story of Uncle Deiter — a man larger than life in the eyes of a five-year-old. So admired that when he says he invented the cheeseburger, he’s taken at his word.

The meal I’ll never forget

Intimate and nostalgic, a small kitchen and a simple dish were part of perhaps the most important moment in a couple’s lifelong relationship.
